Soliciting suggestions for the Theme and Topics of 2025 World Coastal Forum

In response to the important speech made by President Xi Jinping on " China supports the convening of a conference of the World Coastal Forum", actively implementing the global development initiative, responding to international conventions and global resolutions, and effectively discussing international hot and difficult issues in coastal area research, we are now publicly soliciting the theme and topics of 2025 World Coastal Forum globally.


Basic information

2023 World Coastal Forum, jointly hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Government, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, was successfully held in Yancheng in September 2023. The attendees unanimously agreed to hold the World Coastal Forum every two years, and the next forum will be held in 2025.

2025 World Coastal Forum will solicit suggestions on its theme and topics from United Nations agencies and conventions, government departments, organizations, scientific research institutes, industry associations, businesses, and others on a global scale. We sincerely invite all friends who are concerned about coastal ecological protection and sustainable development jointly contribute to 2025 World Coastal Forum.


Form of suggestions

The theme and topics of the forum should focus on current hot and cutting-edge topics in coastal area, which can effectively solve the problems of coastal area and attract the attention and discussion among multiple stakeholders.

(1) Suggestions on the theme

The theme of the forum is in both Chinese and English. It can be in the form of one sentence or contrasting sentences (pure Chinese or English theme is also welcome). It is suggested to combine hot topics of international conferences, initiatives of international conventions, the United Nations’ 2030 agenda for sustainable development, etc. It needs to be impressive and conducive to promotion and publicity.

Themes of past conferences: Our Coasts: Harmony between People and Nature (2023); Harmonious Coexistence: To Build a Community of Life for Man and Nature (2022).

You can attach a description to explain the concept and implications of the theme you suggest.

(2) Suggestions on the topics

The topics can focus on international hot spots of common concern in the coastal area.

Topics of past conferences: Coastal Ecosystem Protection and Conservation, Promoting Coastal Conservation Knowledge of Migratory Species and Habitat, Coastal Sustainable Development, and Raising Awareness and Multi-stakeholder Engagement (2023); Challenges and Opportunities of Coastal Ecosystem Conservation for Biodiversity and People, Sustainable Development of World Heritage sites and The Practice of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) (2022).

Each topic can be accompanied by a description to explain the considerations regarding the topic.
