City's environmental focus aims to create dynamic green economy

Yancheng, Jiangsu province, aims to promote green development, strives to become an important window for ecological civilization and a model for green and low-carbon development in China.

The world is embracing a new industrial revolution and technological transformation characterized by green and low-carbon development.

Yancheng has unique resources and firm development foundations.

It is the only natural heritage site in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta.

It has been recognized as an international wetland city and a national demonstration area for ecological civilization.

Abundant resources make Yancheng the first city in the Yangtze River Delta that has exceeded 10 million kilowatts of new energy power generation.

The new energy power generation accounts for 60 percent of the total social electricity consumption.

In 2022, the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisheries in Yancheng ranked first in Jiangsu.

The total grain output reached 7.16 billion kilograms, making it a vital agricultural and sideline product supply base in East China.

Focusing on green manufacturing, green energy, green ecology and green livability, Yancheng is striving to transform green development into a pathway leading to prosperity and promote the progress of ecological conservation to a new level.

Industries are the foundation of urban development. In 2022, the new energy, steel and crystalline silicon photovoltaic industries in Yancheng exceeded a sales volume of hundred billions of yuan.

Thanks to the support of these major projects, the city's GDP grew by 4.6 percent that year, ranking first in Jiangsu.

Currently, Yancheng is seizing the opportunities brought by the overflow of industrial projects from Shanghai, Nanjing, the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou area, the Pearl River Delta, Europe and other regions.

It is expected that the industrial economic aggregate will exceed 1 trillion yuan this year, with 750 new industrial projects each worth 100 million yuan starting construction.

The green and low-carbon development demonstration zone is a new urban brand and a prominent feature.

The city is accelerating the development of manufacturing industries and focusing on cultivating a number of advantageous, landmark and characteristic industries.

For example, the city will advance new energy vehicles, core components, new energy, new-generation information technology, new materials, the health industry and the digital economy, with a focus on 23 key industrial chains.

They will strive to launch two to three national demonstration intelligent factories, 5G-connected factories and industrial internet pilot programs.

Yancheng will promote the development of offshore wind power clusters near the coast and steadily carry out demonstrations of deep-sea and offshore wind power construction.

The city is also accelerating the construction of low (zero) carbon industrial parks.

Currently, developed countries in Europe and the United States are pushing for carbon footprint certification, carbon labeling quantification and carbon tariffs.

The "green power supply, digital empowerment, internal and external linkage" initiatives will be implemented, and coordination with Fortune Global 500 companies and industry champions in various fields will be strengthened to create industrial competitive advantages.
