As of December 4, a total of 19 flamingos had arrived at the Tiaozini Wetland in Yancheng to spend the winter — two more than last year — setting a new local record for the species.
Flamingos, not commonly seen in China, typically inhabit in Africa, Central and South America, and parts of subtropical Asia such as India. Since 2015, flamingos have wintered in Yancheng for 11 consecutive years, reflecting the improving ecological conditions of the Yellow Sea Wetland.
In recent years, Yancheng has further strengthened restoration and conservation efforts across its coastal wetlands, expanding food resources and improving habitats for migratory birds.
