On March 3, the 13th World Wildlife Day, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, together with relevant institutions, launched a series of promotional events under the global theme set by CITES and the Chinese theme “Protecting Wild Plants for a Healthy Future”, aiming to promote wild plant protection and foster harmony between humanity and nature.
As one of the countries with the richest wild plant species globally, China has made remarkable progress in wildlife and flora conservation in recent years. Currently, over 80% of nationally key protected terrestrial wild fauna and flora species are under effective protection, with their habitats improved and populations showing a steady growth trend.
China has continuously improved relevant laws and regulations, expanded the protection scope, and built a high-quality in-situ conservation system led by national parks. It has also advanced the ex-situ conservation network, achieved breakthroughs in artificial breeding of rare species such as Chinese pangolins, and carried out extensive international cooperation in wildlife protection.
Latest monitoring shows that wild populations of giant pandas, snow leopards, crested ibises and other rare species keep growing. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, China will further promote high-quality development of wildlife and flora conservation to contribute to building a Beautiful China. (By Huang Shan)
